Photographs and the Historical Record
Photographs of Dealey Plaza, the Texas School Book Depository, and the surrounding streets are among the most frequently examined sources in research on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Their value depends on knowing when they were taken, who made them, and whether a published reproduction has been cropped or altered.
Reading Photographs Carefully
A still image captures only a fraction of an event. Camera position, lens characteristics, exposure, and the timing of a frame can all affect interpretation. Compare a photograph with adjacent frames, maps, and independent testimony before drawing conclusions.
Building a Reliable Image Collection
A useful photo entry records the photographer, original archive, date, location, reproduction history, and related primary documents. The surviving homepage archive does not establish a complete original ROKC gallery.
